Frilly Funkie Challenge
"TRAIL OF TEARS"

This week's challenge at http://frillyandfunkie.blogspot.com is Stencil Mania... a challenge to use 3 stencils to create a journal page. My journal page is based on the "Trail of Tears".
Procedure: multiple layers of tries and failed attempts of acrylics and collage, covered with pink and blue acrylic paint, sequin waste, diamond-shaped stencils, number stencils, and dot stencils applied and wiped off with a baby wipe. My image represents what I envision as a member of the Choctaw tribe, black and white print, embellished with paint pens, alcohol markers, and pastels. I also collaged US maps as a way to bring more light to the piece.
His image brought me to a more in-depth look at the history of The Trail of Tears. The term, Trail of Tears invokes the collective suffering of the Cherokee, Creek, Chickasaw, Choctaw, and Seminole Indians. The Choctaw were the first Indians to become the victims of the Indian Removal Act with the signing of "The Treaty of Dancing Rabbit Creek" in 1830. They gave up 11 million acres of prime agricultural land that had been cleared and was highly coveted by outsiders. The Cherokee fought the judicial system but finally lost their attempts. At that point, New president Martin Van Buren ordered 16,000 Cherokees to be rounded up and put into holding camps. Any that tried to escape were shot, while others suffered from disease and sexual assault from guards. It is estimated as many as 100,000 tribal people were forced from their homes and as many as 20,000 men, women and children perished. In recent years, prominent political figures in the United States have finally begun to acknowledge the Native American genocide and how many Native Americans were killed.

CARPE DIEM does not mean Fish of the Day
Challenge "Fish" for Art Journal Journey, the link is at the right under challenges. This is my first challenge in quite some time, I had fun putting it together, but realize I'm a tad rusty. As I look back at the challenges I did a few years back, I see I have lots of room for re-growth. Oh, guess I should explain, the challenge was fish. I found a cute quote about fish, "Carpe Diem does not mean Fish of the day." The word comes from a Roman Poet, Horace. It is a Latin aphorism (whatever that is)translated.. "SEIZE THE DAY". In my language it translates to Happy, Fun, Meditate, Smile, Soar, and Be Happy. You can find these words if you zoom in, they're in plain sight.

Take A Word... MOON
This week over at Take A Word Challenge, the word was Moon. I've been contemplating for days, and finally it hit me.. " Blue Moon of Kentucky", by Bill Monroe.
I wasn't born in Kentucky, but both Mom and Dad's family extend to western Kentucky, and as well, I married the most delightful man who's family came from Kentucky also. I'm pretty much alone now, so many Kentuckian's that I hold so dear to my heart are gone now.
Here are the heartfelt inspiring lyrics....

Three Muse Challenge Feb.9th "LYRIC". I selected " As Time Goes By" from the movie Casablanca..Ken and I watched it so many times we actually knew what Boggie and Bergman were going to say before they uttered the words like, "We'll always have Paris" and " Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine", the list is endless. Such sweet memories that I hold on to. Check out the other fantastic LYRIC art pieces that others have posted, here's the link:

A kiss is just a kiss
A sigh is just a sigh
The fundamental things apply
As time goes by
They still say "I love you"
On that you can rely
No matter what the future brings
As time goes by
Never out of date
Hearts full of passion
Jealousy and hate
Woman needs man, and man must have his mate
That no one can deny
A fight for love and glory
A case of do or die
The world will always welcome lovers
As time goes by
Never out of date
Hearts full of passion
Jealousy and hate
Woman needs man, and man must have his mate
That no one can deny
A fight for love and glory
A case of do or die
The world will always welcome lovers
As time goes by

The Three Muses Challenge.
I'm still using primitive art methods, paper, paint, glue and found stuff, wish I could figure out this new Digital Art, but alas.... too old, too late. This is my take on the Turquoise and Red Challenge, I used lots of red magazine clips, distressed paint, journaling (hidden under the paint) and one of hubby's cigar wrappers, what a lovely necklace for the Lady in Red. Head on over to their blog and see all the other fantastic art work.

Sunday Postcard "White"
The challenge this week at "Sunday Postcard" was WHITE! Think you can't be inspired by White, well think again. My mind drifted back to my childhood playing Clue, much more fun than Monopoly cause you didn't have to worry about been a land tycoon or handling money and always landing on Boardwalk with those nasty hotels. Oh well... anyway, Mrs. White just kind of jumped out from the shadows and here she is, holding the candlestick. Too bad, she's been busted. Hop on over to http://sundaypostcardart.wordpress.com/ and see what other cool stuff has been created with White! Thanks for dropping by!Saturday, March 26, 2011
